The Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) has called for a protest at the Vice-Chancellor’s office (Gate No. 1) on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, opposing the New Funding System (NFS). The demonstration aims to highlight teachers' concerns about the implications of the NFS on public education and university autonomy.
Impact on Classes
In light of the dharna, first-year classes will remain suspended from 12:00 noon onward. This decision underscores the scale of participation and the significance of the issues raised by the teachers’ community.
The protest is spearheaded by DUTA office bearers, including President A.K. Bhagi, Vice-President Sudhanshu Kumar, Secretary Anil Kumar, Joint Secretary Trivendra Chumbak, and Treasurer Akanksha Khurana. Speaking about the protest, DUTA's leadership emphasized the detrimental effects of NFS, describing it as a move towards "privatization" that threatens affordable and accessible education.
As the protest unfolds, DUTA is expected to bring together a large number of teachers and university stakeholders to press for reforms and transparency in education policies.
